Replaceable

Sometimes, when an animal relocates from one herd to another, the management number happens to be the same for an animal already resident at the new farm. This creates complications for herd owners and the service sector.

It is not permissible to remove or replace national identifiers (with official CA logo). However, it is now possible for producers (outside Québec) to initiate a replacement tag set (with CDB logo) upon request to National Livestock IDentification at a cost of $2.00.

Security dairy panel tags no longer carry bar codes issued after mid-April 2006, creating more usable space to write in helpful management details. Existing protocols must be followed to ensure program credibility and integrity.

Tags must not be removed until the security replacement tags are received, validated, and ready to insert in the animal’s one ear. A new tagging position should be selected if the previous hole is enlarged or near the outer or lower edge of the ear.
